projectAmour: A Bridal Memoir (the engagement)

Thursday, January 05, 2012
While a wedding planning professional is a great individual to have involved with your wedding (especially projectPosh!), sometimes the very best advice and guidance can come from recent brides or brides who are currently planning their wedding. To keep our readers and clients on the right path towards planning a successful and memorable event, over the course of 2012, we are going to follow a bride through her wedding planning joys and woes. We are calling this series...projectAmour: A Bridal Memoir. This bridal journal will show us the ins and outs of the planning process, the emotions a bride and groom will experience, and, of course, the good, the bad, and the annoying! So be sure to stayed tuned with projectPosh to see what our bride has been up to. Enjoy!

Let's meet our bride, Cheryl...

My name is Cheryl and I write a fashion blog, a peek of chic, and work as a consultant for the government. My fiancé, Chris (also a consultant), and I live with our dog, Elsie, in the Washington, DC area. We met 3 ½ years ago and got engaged over Thanksgiving. I am very thankful to be able to share my story with projectPosh’s readers; this whole process is so exciting!!!

We don't have the exact date set yet, but we are looking to get married in May 2013.

My vision for my ideal wedding is a destination wedding primarily to keep it small, but also because I couldn't think of anywhere more beautiful than a Caribbean island! One of my main goals is to ensure an intimate affair, so choosing a small boutique hotel is very important. Being on an island will guarantee a laid back vibe where my guests (and us!) can just have fun and leave everything else on the mainland!

I Said Yes!

Over this past Thanksgiving, my sister, boyfriend and dog spent the holiday in NYC (my favorite city!). We woke up early to see the parade and then later that afternoon took Elsie to Central Park. The plan was to take a photo for our holiday card. We made our way to Bow Bridge, at Chris’ request, and got all setup for our photo. I had a sign that read “Happy Holidays,” however, it was windy so it was hard to read. Elsie also wasn’t cooperating as planned, so my sister suggested she just take a good photo of Chris and I, and then she would photoshop in the sign and our dog. So after I gave her the sign and Elsie, I walked back to the other side of bridge where Chris was, and he hit his knee!

Chris had already told my sister what he would be doing, so she was able to capture every moment! She made a cute sign for me as well, to announce to all our friends.

My GORGEOUS ring was exactly what I wanted, and I am thankful that Chris listened ;) I still stare at it daily and can’t foresee that ever ending…it is perfect!

Now that Cheryl has said yes!, it's time for the planning to begin. See you next time where she discusses finding wedding inspiration and asking her bridesmaids to be a part of her big day!
